Gallery Simurg is a private art gallery situated in Perth, Western Australia, specialising in paintings from the country of Azerbaijan, and currently houses around 100 artworks.
We hope to promote Azeri art in a way that educates people about its passion, skill and cultural and social consciousness. Often, art is obscured by the constant bombardment of images we are subjected to every day. We blink and we forget. On the other side of the world, Azeri artists are producing timeless, beautiful and deeply thought-provoking artworks.
Our featured works by Eliar Alimirzayev, Museib Amirov, Zakir Huseynov, Samo Abasov, Elena Hagverdiyeva, Eldar Babazadeh, Anar Huseynzadeh and Butunay Hagverdiyev exemplify the expressive art currently being produced by accomplished Azeri artists. While compositions vary from the representational to the naive and abstract, and each artist has their own distinctive style, common elements of Azeri art come to the forefront. The gallery also features the work of Udjal Hagverdiyev, who tragically passed away in 2004.
The artists' confidence is illustrated by their passionate yet masterly use of colour, and effortless compositions. A strong sense of emotion and social identification is impressed upon the viewer, who is visually treated to an intricate mixture of peoples and traditions. The artists have been trained rigorously in the traditional European academic approach, at esteemed institutions in Azerbaijan and other ex-Soviet republics. This strong foundation has provided the artists with the ability to communicate their unique visions.
Private viewing at the gallery can be arranged through prior appointment. If you are interested in any of the artworks or wish to learn more about art in Azerbaijan and the country, please feel free to contact us by phone or email.
